Best Blues in Sacramento

It’s hot ass in this city.  I’m jus sayin’. BUT, on the other side of that, Sacramento also is home to the stinking best Blues joint this side of Memphis … an’ I just come back from there so I know on this.  This weekend Quinn Hedges is coming in, with his Bluez Houndz.. like we don’t smell enough like houndz ’round here this time of year.  Saturday we’re gonna clean up (yea, right) for Big Sandy and his Fly Rite Boys.  And Sunday Tess and Hip Trash is in the house.  oooh, this is gonna be a dirty little weekend, now isn’t it?

Torch Club Sacramento

I just found out my share– everybody’s share, actually– of the deficit is $46, 540.  I dunno–  is someone waiting for me to write that check, or … what?  Because, at last count I got the price of a No Cover Happy Hour and a coupla cold ones in my can, and then I’m out.  See ya tonight for some X Trio at the Legendary Torch Club.  After that, Harley White Jr. and Aaron King…. hey, btw… can I borrow $5?

On this day in blues history

Today in 1935 Tampa Red recorded I’m Betting on You for the BlueBird label.  One of the ‘cheap’ offshoot labels, part of the “three records for a dollar” market scheme started by another company.  Yea.  I gotta think three records and something cold to drink would be a major chord in 1935.

Blues for Life

I just got the VERY first of a looooooong list of Featured Artists for this years Blues For Life …. and Mercy ME!  No–  I mean, that’s part of the incredible lineup–  Mercy Me!  also Nibblers, Bone MacDonald…  Kaye Bohler!!??  Walking Spanish and oh, hell…  let’s wrap this first list with Ron Hacker, ay?  An’ here’s the thing…  it’s only gonna get better as the train rolls by and the artists jump on.  Stay tuned….ya.

In English Pubs…

… drinks are served in pints and quarts. In old England, bartenders would advise troublemakers to mind their own pints and quarts. It’s the origin of “mind your P’s and Q’s.”

ohh, ya

Special Deal for a Friday with a No Cover Happy Hour with Torch Club favorites Pailer & Fratis, then at 9pm Blind Pig artist Hamilton Loomis comes in from Texas and brings us a “mixed bag of modern blues, modern funk and slick soul.”  It speaks volumes when the likes of Diddley, Johnny “Clyde” Copeland, Clarence “Gatemouth” Brown, and Albert Collins take you under their wings.  I’m thinking you can’g go wrong with this one.

better too early than

too late, right?  When launching a weekend?  Yes, it is Thursday, and if you’re like me you’ve been at it since Monday.  4 DAYS?  Primitive.  Let’s put a stop to this with Chingus tonight, Hamilton Loomis Friday night, Saturday afternoon with our favorite Johnny Knox followed up by the legendary John Lee Hooker Jr.   Cool off Sunday afternoon at the Blues Jam then at 8, a lil’ Groove Session.  That’ll get ya through a brutal four day week.

save some skin.

Today post work you can either burn your butt on the seat of your car all the way through traffic, or you can step in for an ever-entertaining open mic, followed up at 9 by Mind X.

“Have a Great Week!”

Don’t you hate it when people say that?  Ugh, the pressure.  I’ll have whatever KIND of week I want, dude– back off. As it happens this midweek lineup at the Legendary Torch Club will in fact force you to “Have a Good Week…”  Like it or not.  Cool acoustic no cover Happy Hour every day..  followed up by a lil’ Dippin Sauce …  MindX … Bumpet/Chingus… Hamilton Loomis will be in ….  There ya go….no pressure.
