Tonight: TESS SELL AND THE POOR MAN BAND

Ah, yes, Miss Tessie Marie is bringing her chops to the Torch for a warm Sunday evening of painfully smooth grooves. Hold it together for one more sweet summer weekend night.. they’re starting to run thin.

TONIGHT: ORQUESTA DHARMA

OOh, don’t be intimidated by that Q in the name..  Orquesta Dharma is a bunch of NoCal guys that just happen to have a Latin Jazz bump that’ll blow your pants off.  Yea.  No, let’s hope not.  But..  they do have an album, Road Warrior, that has been called  “Este es sin duda uno de los mejores albumes de Jazz Latino en lo que va corrido del siglo XXI.”  Translated for the rest of us means, “This is undoubtedly one of the best albums Latin Jazz as far this century”.  Strap on your pants, and get in here tonight.

TONIGHT: AFROFUNK EXPERIENCE

The Afrofunk Experience are in the house tonight, winners of The NAACP Image Award’s Outstanding World Music Album “Black President” and winners of The SF Weekly Music Award’s Best International Act.
Chunky rhythms mixed with tasty funk-to-metal guitar grooves and blazing horns is the deep soul sound of the Afrofunk Experience: Every night the band delivers home grown original Bay Area Funk, Soul, R&B, Afrobeat, Reggae and more. Dubbed “The Bay Area’s Dance Kings” — be sure to roll in early.

TONIGHT: BUSTER BLUE

It’s been said that everything musical has been done before, but Buster Blue has found a place inhabited only by their own off-kilter creation.
The five members utilize an arsenal of instruments that include horns, banjo, accordion, chains, and a well-placed bucket.
Buster Blue brings more than music to the stage.
Consummate performers, they bring theatrics to their live sets that meld seamlessly to the emotional arc of each of their songs.
At times a raucous bar band and at other times a bit musical theater.

BEST OF SACRAMENTO

Yea, I know.  Someone out there’s sayin’ “Eghh…  Its just a beauty contest, we don’t need no stinking award…”  And, yea, I guess, it’s true… you might be right.

Mmm… No you’re not.

The Nibblers are a Sacramento based rocking soul funk explosion!
Getting booties shakin’!!

TONIGHT: EDDIE TURNER AND THE TROUBLE TWINS

“Otherworldly”, “scorching”, “polyrhythmic” and “chilling” have all been used to describe Eddie Turner’s guitar playing. His ethereal style is an amalgam of the Afro-Cuban rhythms of his heritage and the music that influenced him as a teenager: Chicago blues, jazz, r&b and psychedelic rock. The Cuban-born singer/guitarist cut his teeth in several rock bands contributing what Slate magazine describes as “spacey-yet-resounding solos.”
